2018 Pacific Rim International Music Festival Review

Pacific Rim International Music Festival (PRM) is guided and directed by Pacific Rim International Music & Education Society (PRIME Society) and Guangzhou Bo Yu Culture and Art Inc.. As an international, professional music festival, PRM establishes and organizes a platform for musicians in Pacific Rim countries to launch broad range academic discussion, aiming to promote an exchange of music and arts among various international music groups and individuals. many young musicians from across the pacific rim region including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Hong Kong, Toronto and Vancouver, showcased their talent through multiple rounds of competition and selection, the elite of elites finally come to this inspiring stage.

Haochen Zhang's Fantastic Performance
The gala concert of Pacific Rim International Music Festival (PRM), one of the most brilliant in history was held in Chan Centre, Vancouver. Haochen Zhang, the First Prize winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, performed Liuyang River, Erica and La Campanella.

At the prestigious Chan Centre, the Ten Steinway Grand Pianos Ensemble, which included 10 pianists, is the FIRST TIME in the history of British Columbia.

Haochen Zhang's Master Classes

Haochen Zhang, as PRM Special Artist, was invited to give a series of master classes and lectures(in mandarin). Haochen is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied under Gary Graffman. Since his gold medal win at the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, Haochen Zhang has captivated audiences in the United States, Europe, and Asia with a unique combination of deep musical sensitivity, fearless imagination, and spectacular virtuosity.

Graffman was born in New York City to Russian-Jewish parents. Having started piano at age 3, Graffman entered the Curtis Institute of Music at age 7 in 1936 as a piano student of Isabelle Vengerova. He then furthered his piano studies with Rudolf Serkin at the Marlboro Music Festivaland informally with Vladimir Horowitz. In 1980, he joined the faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music, where his career had begun. He took over as the school's director in 1986, and added the title of President in 1995. His students include the pianists Lydia Artymiw, Lang Lang, Yuja Wang, and Haochen Zhang.
